Kids' Jordan Retro 11 Shoes

Fans of all ages welcomed him back. And now, whether it’s on a basketball court, in a classroom, or on a playground, even the littlest can look like the biggest of ballers with the kids’ Jordan Retro 11.

A legendary look

Coincidentally, while MJ was pursuing a minor league baseball career during his retirement, designer Tinker Hatfield would draw inspiration from a baseball cleat in designing the basketball shoe that would welcome Jordan back.

The shiny patent leather of that Japanese cleat caught Hatfield’s eye because of its ability to support in a lightweight way, but also because it was easy to keep clean.

He likened it to a car, adding that the Air Jordan XI was like a convertible because it had a cloth top. Hatfield was referring to the cordura nylon upper that gave the shoe the toughness of a hiking backpack along with the flexibility a serious baller would need.

But what really made fans sit up and take notice was when MJ debuted the shoe during the playoffs in May 1995, about six months before they were made public. And while they debuted in the White/Black/Concord colorway, the Black/Red “Bred” colorway that MJ rolled out in the 1996 playoffs has never stopped turning heads.
